April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. In honor of this, we are hosting the Liberation Workshop Free to the Public. This Workshop, coordinated by Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Advocate and Survivor, Joi Miner, teaches healing through the arts. We all know that expressing one’s pain may be frightening and difficult. The Liberation Workshop offers an avenue for anyone to express themselves in the form of poetry, essay, and/or visual art. Open to females ages 12 and up, we provide empowering, enlightening, and meditative exercises that reinforce the woman’s knowledge of strength and power within herself.

Journaling has been proven to offer many benefits to one’s life, never more true than in the lives of those who feel that they are voiceless. Liberation incorporates the act of journaling into the lives of survivors. Using the creation of one’s own “I See Me” personal journal, writing prompts geared towards the expression of repressed emotions, and facilitated by an individual that can sympathize with the pain of the attendant, create an environment conducive for growth, empowerment, and healing.
